NATRUE

Over the past two decades, the European Union (EU) has banned more than 1,300 chemicals in the product formulas of personal care products and restricted the levels of over 250 more in such products. However, around 80% of ingredients found in beauty cosmetics have never been tested for safety.

Cosmetics

Over 7000 products are certified with the NATRUE label and more than 320 brands trust this label for the certification of their products.

The NATRUE label Standard represents the requirements to which cosmetic products must comply. The NATRUE certification can be both for raw materials and finished products. The certification process is the same for both. All products and materials must comply with regulations according to EU and International Standards; these can be found in the NATRUE criteria document.

Raw Materials: These include those containing substances that are classified as natural. These “natural” ingredients are obtained, among others, using only permitted physical processes and extraction, or obtained using reactions carried out by naturally occurring enzymes or microorganisms.

Finished Products: NATRUE establishes two levels: natural and organic. To show that the product complies with the criteria, the company must follow certain requirements such as descriptions of origin and manufacturing processes, product formulation, criteria for packaging, etc.

Packaging: it should be kept to a minimum. However, if necessary, recyclable packaging materials must be used.

To achieve the NATRUE label, it is necessary that at least 75% of the products of a specific brand are eligible to achieve the NATRUE certification.

NATRUE has partnered with several certification bodies that have official permission to certify raw materials and finished products under the NATRUE Label Criteria. Among these are Bio Inspecta, Bioagricert, Eco Control, and OF&G.
