LEARN ABOUT THIRD PARTY CERTIFICATIONS AND WHAT THEY MEAN

Leaping Bunny

Did you know that despite millions of animals being used in experiments every year, a high percentage of these tests don’t translate well to human safety. Estimates suggest that between 90% and 95% of drugs that are safe and effective in animals fail human trials.

The mission of Leaping Bunny certification can be summed up in two main goals:

  1. Ending animal testing in the cosmetics industry: Leaping Bunny works to eliminate the practice of testing cosmetic products and ingredients on animals altogether.
  2. Empowering consumers to make cruelty-free choices: By providing a clear and recognizable certification symbol, Leaping Bunny empowers consumers to easily identify products that align with their values of not supporting animal testing.

It applies to cosmetics, personal care, and household products, including:

  • Makeup (foundation, lipstick, mascara, etc)
  • Skincare products (moisturizer, cleanser, sunscreen, etc)
  • Hair care products (shampoo, conditioner, etc)
  • Bath and body products (soap, shower gel, lotion, etc)
  • Household cleaning products (detergent, all-purpose cleaner, dish soap, etc)

Leaping Bunny certification is built on a single core standard: No animal testing. Companies seeking Leaping Bunny approval must pledge to never conduct, commission, or be party to animal testing for their finished cosmetic or household products, nor for their ingredients, after a fixed cut-off date (FCOD).

This means:

  • No new animal testing: Companies cannot perform any new animal tests on their products or ingredients.
  • Ingredient suppliers must comply: The certification extends to the company’s ingredient suppliers, who must also not conduct animal testing on the ingredients used in Leaping Bunny certified products.
  • Independent audits: Companies are open to independent audits to verify their compliance with the standards.
  • Annual renewal: Leaping Bunny certification is not a one-time thing. Companies must renew their commitment annually.
