Using plant-based materials versus dairy-based cheeses reduces carbon emissions in the first place. Before, Willicroft main ingredient was cashews, however, they realised these were the highest emitting ingredient with no potential to grow them locally. Willicroft has now switched to beans (over 80% of their range is now based on beans and pulses, resulting in better emissions.

In 2022, Willicroft started a pilot farm in the Netherlands, including regenerative princicles, using natural manures and no spraying on their crops. They aim to source all the beans in NL.
The waste product goes to sites such as TooGoodToGo or composted. All scraps go to their local worm hotel (Stadsboerderij Zimmerhoeve), where it’s turned back into soil. Packaging is bio-based and can be reused, recycled and/or composted.
