About The Company

Get the ins and outs

Launched in the Netherlands in 2010, the Vegetarian Butcher was created from the need of a great meat lover who wanted to remove animals from the food chain without compromising on meaty taste and texture. It all initially started in the Hague and it has grown into a worldwide Food Revolution. The Vegetarian Butcher was created for meat lovers who would like to experience the taste of animal meat with vegetarian meat products. They have a wide range of meat substitutes (or “the new meat”, how they like calling it”, ranging from sausages, patties, mince meat, and empanadas, both plant-based and vegetarian.

Becoming the largest butcher in the world selling animal-free meat.

  • By 2021, the Vegetarian Butcher switched to 100% recycled PET plastic for the chilled plastic packaging, saving 210 tons of plastic that can be recycled per year.
  • 96% Lower Global warming impact compared to beef
  • 96% Lower land use compared to beef
  • 70% lower water consumption compared to beef

The Vegetarian Butcher has partnered with two food tech companies to become more impactful. These technologies are planned to be implemented into their products:

  • Algenuity: produces microalgae and has developed an innovative technology to provide plant-based ingredientes that are sustainable, GMO free and natural.
  • ENOUGH: produces a microprotein, a food ingredient containing all essential amino acids and fibre.
  • Aim to have fully recycled and/or recyclable materials for all packs by 2025.
