The reforestation planting they are part of uses agroforestry techniques, which is a way to preserve productive ecosystems whilst adapting to climate change. Replanting of trees can increase soil retention, improve water quality and encourage income diversity, while also improving crop quality.

The Coconut Collaborative has also started a new project with Pur Project where they plant mangroves – these are rapidly disappearing with an estimated 1/3 being lost over the last 50 years. The mangroves are considered a good source for a large variety of fish and they help maintain the optimal level of salt in seawater, while also protecting the coast and beaches from flooding and erosion. Mangroves also help with carbon sequestration.

Did you know that 80% of plastic bottles we buy end up in landfills and take up to 1000 years for one bottle to decompose? The Coconut Collaborative has presented a new limited edition bag made 100% of recycled bottles, and by turning waste into these bags, we are being a little bit kinder to our planet.

No toxic materials are used in the process of The Coconut Collaborative. Instead, they use pectin and other natural starches that are derived from cereals and fruits.

All of their suppliers are assessed through SMETA (Sedex Member Ethical Trade Audit), ensuring compliance with their standards of labour, health, and safety.

The Pur Projet regeneration projects are also desgined by and for the community, empowering them to operate long-term socio-environmental projects.
