What does this brand sell?
Organic Basics uses innovative and creative alternative materials, including recycled ones as well as organic cotton and TENCEL (TM) to create essentials that fit with anything for women and men. Their extensive life cycle assessment has revealed the impact of every single product on its own, as well as the various textiles in general. OB’s goals stretch beyond creating sustainable fashion, as they want to fix the broken agricultural system through the Regenerative Organic Cotton Pilot Project in partnership with WWF. Moreover, they have set up the Organic Basics Fund to help fight climate change, restore biodiversity and protect vulnerable communities. Sustainability even resonates within their web design, as their website has been created to minimise impact through lowering data transfer by up to 70% compared to their regular website.
“To increase awareness of fashion’s environmental impact and show businesses and individuals how it can be done better with more sustainable approaches.”

As Organic Basics makes use of recycled materials rather than virgin textiles in various products, this saves energy, water, chemicals, and CO2 emissions. As such, using recycled nylon rather than the virgin fabric creates 90% fewer CO2 emissions. Taken all together, over 163 tonnes of CO2 emissions have been saved from being released, not including their own offsets, compared to traditional practices (such as conventional cotton and virgin textiles). Since 2020, they have offset their carbon emissions and become carbon neutral.
Over 1991 GJ has been saved compared to traditional practices through partnering with factories and suppliers that run on clean, renewable energy and try to reduce their energy footprint.
Using recycled nylon rather than the virgin fabric takes 80% less water to make. Similarly, TENCEL (TM) uses 80% less water than conventional cotton as they grow fast and thick. Using innovative materials and business practices, Organic Basics has saved over 3000 m2 of water compared to traditional practices.

Taking all their sustainability practices together, Organic Basics has managed to save over 2.43 tonnes (as of december 2021) of waste from entering landfills compared to traditional practices. One of their initiatives to minimise waste is by their circular denim, by using mixes of organic and recycled cotton that cannot be unmixed and can therefore be recycled and stay in circulation for longer.
Furthermore, Organic Basics uses seamless knitting, meaning that not only are there no weak points in the fabric and are more comfortable but also reduce fabric waste during the production phase.
Their impact report has revealed that over 29.23 tonnes of harmful chemicals have been saved from entering the environment, such as lead, mercury, chlorine, and formaldehyde.
Organic Basics only works with trusted, certified factory partners with the same sustainable vision. They ensure the workplaces are free of child labour and forced labour, that workers are surrounded by a safe working space, are paid a living wage, offered employee perks such as free lunch and childcare, and that they are respected at all times. Moreover, the Organic Basics Fund helps out non-profit organisations and initiatives within Europe that are taking action against environmental crises and social injustice. They donate a portion of their profits twice a year.
