They use collected ocean plastic to create jewellery in Bali, using waste streams for new products.

About The Company

Get the ins and outs

Oceanmata was founded in 2018 after an eye-opening trip to Sri Lanka where beaches were full of plastic waste. They wanted to solve the plastic waste problem by creating more environmentally friendly phone cases, while funding plastic clean-ups as well as the conservation of sea turtles and dolphins. Over 215 thousand kgs of plastic has been collected from beaches in Bali, and they contribute to the ocean’s inhabitants through donation as well.

To create something big that has a positive impact on our environment, by ridding the oceans of plastic waste and producing sustainable everyday items.

No information has been found on the achieved sustainable milestones.

Oceanmata funds Ocean Cleanup projects to protect biodiversity, and donates to various projects that conserve turtles and dolphins, for example.

Over 216.000 kg of plastic has been collected from the oceans so far (2023) as for each cover sold, they remove 1 kg of plastic from the ocean in Bali. After collecting the plastic, it is brought to a recycling plant where it is recycled for further processing by processing them into pallets.

Moreover, no plastic is used for shipping, only recycled paper. The sleeves are 100% biodegradable, made from a bio-plastic, which is tested on a regular basis. It is assumed they degrade within 2-5 years. The packaging that they are shipped in are made from 70% recycled paper and 30% grass, without glue or metal clips or plastic.

They have recently (2022) started using collected ocean plastic to make bracelets and necklaces, using waste streams to create new products.
