What does this brand sell?
KUMI Sneakers was founded in 2020 in Spain when the founders Sergio and Alexandra decided to dedicate themselves to sustainable fashion. The project of vegan sneakers was created with three things in mind: respect and love for animals, sustainable fashion, and local economic support. KUMI is a producer of sneakers made of corn and recycled plastic bottles and are committed to change the society we live in, one pair of shoes at a time. You can find more information on the brand and the owners in their blog and featured podcast episodes.
“To create a community of globe-trotters that seek to leave a sustainable footprint with every step they take and that are committed to change the society they live in.”

Corn comes from GMO-free crops.
Corn waste and recycled plastic bottles are the main materials of these shoes. With this being said, KUMI Sneakers are reusing these “raw” materials that otherwise would end up in our landfills and oceans.
Moreover, they work on an on-demand basis to produce small amounts of stock, with a timeless design in mind to help slow down the fashion industry.
Most parts of the packaging are home-compostable (tissue, handtag, sticker) or biodegradable (postcard), if not recyclable (box) or a more eco-friendly alternative that does not include toxic substances (tape).
Lastly, they have a so-called ‘re-outlet’ section where they sell products that have been used previously or have minor factory defects, to give items a second chance and minimise their environmental impact.
No toxic materials such as acids, chrome and/or nickel are used in the manufacturing process of these sneakers.
Due their on-demand working style, they can provide adequate work conditions to their local manufacturers.
They have conducted a Life Cycle Analysis but this is not publicly available.
