Through years of research and development, Indosole managed to create a way to upcycle rubber from old tires into footwear. Their researchers discovered their own Sole Engineered Tire Technology to develop new material using natural and recycled rubber, by turning the tires into powder and rebuilt the rubber from scratch. The company was launched in 2009 and received its B Corp certification in 2014.

1.5 billion tires go to waste on an annual basis, and because of their texture they are pretty much impossible to decompose. Indosole upcycles tire soles to create durable sandal soles. They also have a sandal drop off in Bali where it is used by a local artist, their future plans aim to use it for new products.
In developing countries, tires are sometimes burned to use it as a cheap alternative to fuel, resulting in toxic oils and fumes. By using these tires to upcycle them into shoes, these harmful fumes are avoided.
Only natural dyes are used for colouring, without chemicals or toxic run-off.
Being a B Corp includes caring for the people as well as the planet. The Indo Workshop is staffed by professional adult artisans that work in a sanitary, safe and positive environment abundant with natural light.
