Located in Germany, Hej Hej mats produces the first sustainable yoga mat that is made from 100% recycled and/or upcycled materials. Additionally, their products are closed loop, which means that at the end of their life cycle, you can return these to the company and this will provide the raw material for the foam of a new mat. They donate to various organisations, stretching from projects focusing on environmental education to social responsibility.
“To use our sustainable yoga equipment to reduce the amount of plastic waste on our planet and promote conscious consumption. We are enthusiastic about raw materials that flow in endless cycles.”

95% of the raw materials are from Germany, and the rest come from neighboring countries. These means that they save a lot of CO2 emissions compared to if they had the centre of production in Asia. Similarly, almost all materials they use are recycled, up-cycled and/or saved from being discarded, saving on carbon emissions compared to standard materials.
The team also works (partly) remotely, saving further CO2 emissions compared to a bigger and rented space.
The production hall is equipped with solar modules which are used to power the machines.

No waste is created by these products since they operate according to the principles of the Circular Economy. Up to 2024, Hej Hej saved over 22000 kg of foam waste.
Additionally, in 2023, over 1300 kg of husk and 25kg of grape seeds were used for the filling of the bolster and eye pillows, respectively. Both materials are leftovers from agriculture.
Similarly, they use cotton offcuts for the production of the eye pillows, and for other products that use cotton (the bolsters and pillows), they use recycled cotton.
They use biodegradable materials to produce the strap, bag, eye-pillow and bolster. They can biodegrade either in your own compost or by putting into the organic bin.
Lastly, the spray bottle (for cleaning your mat) can be recycled (partly in the glass bin, partly in the plastic).
Moreover, you can also give back your old hejhej-mat and they will process it and give it a new life, closing loops.
