What does this brand sell?
GRÜNBAG started their journey back in 2008 when they realised how many surplus materials coming from i.e. the fashion industry being discarded without ever getting to embody their purpose of being used. For this reason, GRÜNBAG decided to give these wasted materials a new motive and started rethinking their potential. Created in Denmark, GRÜNBAG offers a unique alternative made from highly durable materials made to withstand industrial wear and tear. Their ongoing focus is to reuse scraps and find new creative ways to prevent waste in the production process.
“To stop wasting resources and to give wasted materials a new purpose.”

One of the materials they use is made from 100% recycled plastic which is also called recycled PET (Polyester). This material replaces the ones made from brand new plastic, saving CO2 emissions in the process. Generally speaking, by using recycled materials, GRÜNBAG is preventing the production of new material, which would result in higher CO2 emissions.

In some of the bags, GRÜNBAG uses new leather straps to close them, due to the fact they have not been able to find a material that compares to leather in terms of durability. However, they do offer a vegan alternative to any non-vegan bag.
GRÜNBAG’s purpose is to make quality bags from sustainable and environmentally friendly materials in order to reduce the waste of resources and rethink the usability of the things we throw away. This results in approximately 90% of reused materials in each bag. One of the most distinctive materials they use is tarpaulin which is used as truck covers. Additionally, they also use life rafts, thermal suits from the rescue service, and used white sails from the marine environment. All of this, along with other upcycled and recycled materials, are given a second life, avoiding further waste.
Moreover, some of the backpacks are released based on on-demand production, meaning that a bad is only made when the order is placed. This of course avoids mass- and overproduction that could potentially lead to these final products being discarded.
No toxic materials are present in the manufacturing process of these bags.
