One of the benefits of bamboo is that sequesters carbon dioxide from the environment. Large-scale bamboo plantations can become “carbon sinks”: areas designed to reabsorb CO2 from the atmosphere. The use of recycled plastic bottles helps reduce CO2 emissions. In their latest collection (2023) they saved over 46,763 Kg of CO2 emissions compared with a pair of conventional sneakers.

By using hemp, it allows the company to save more than 60 liters of water compared to shoes made from leather. By using recycled plastic bottles and waste from the footwear industry, Flamingos Life is helping to reduce water consumption: the water footprint is reduced by 40% by using recycled polyester or cotton. By 2021, over 200,000 liters of water has been saved compared to leather sneakers. In their latest collection (2023), 65,052m3 of water was saved compared with a pair of conventional sneakers.
With the purchase of every pair from the Classic 70s kicks and Rancho V.2 Collections, Flamingos Life, along with the NGO Eden Reforestation Projects directly plant 5 trees. Over 90% of Madagascar’s original forests have been destroyed, affecting and displacing many species of animals. Together with Eden Projects, they are reforesting the island. They are working with a similar project in Mozambique.
Corn waste material passed the most important quality standards and it has proven to be more durable than leather. Hemp is a natural biodegradable fiber and by using it, Flamingos Life reduces the waste they produce. Lastly, with the monthly donations to WFO, they have collected over 25,600 Kg of plastic from the oceans by the start of 2024.
No use of toxic materials in the production of these sneakers. By using corn and bamboo, Flamingos Life has emitted (in one of their latest collection) 24,671 g less of PO4 compared to sneakers made of leather (2024).
