What does this brand sell?
Founded in Iceland in 1992, Blue Lagoon Iceland has evolved into a company encompassing transformative spa experiences, research and development, sustainability, culinary enjoyment, a renowned line of skin care, and the convergence of hospitality and wellness.
They aspire to bring forth balance and harmony between man and nature. Buildings merge with the volcanic vista, becoming one with the land. Construction materials are chosen for their durability, repairability, and green production standards. And design elements are inspired by the shapes, colors, textures, and patterns of the surrounding landscape, creating an esthetic framework that blurs the distinction between interior and exterior.
“To harness the transformative power of geothermal resources, sustainably creating unique and enriching experiences that promote well-being, innovation, and environmental harmony, while inspiring a deeper connection with the natural world.”

Blue Lagoon’s sustainable utilization of multiple energy streams produced at Svartsengi Resource Park is articulated by the Geothermal Ecocycle—a framework describing the circular flow of geothermal energy and its byproducts, which uses no fossil fuels.
Blue Lagoon’s sustainable utilization of multiple energy streams produced at the Svartsengi Resource Park is articulated by the geothermal ecocycle—a framework describing the circular flow of geothermal energy and its byproducts. From the geothermal seawater that fills the famous lagoon and enables Blue Lagoon Skincare, to the steam that generates heat and electricity, to the recycling of CO2: the most innovative dimension of Blue Lagoon’s all-encompassing conservationist ethos is its carbon capture method for transforming CO2—a greenhouse gas resulting from geothermal energy production—into sustenance for the microalgae cultivated at the R&D center for use in Blue Lagoon Skincare. Blue Lagoon is the only company in the world that uses CO2 in this manner.
Geothermal energy, harnessed and produced at the Svartsengi Resource Park, is the sole source of electricity, heating, and hot water at Blue Lagoon Iceland, providing 100% of the company’s needs in these three arenas.
Lighting throughout Blue Lagoon Iceland is created through energy efficient LED and OLED technologies.
Blue Lagoon’s sustainable utilization of multiple energy streams produced at the Svartsengi Resource Park is articulated by the geothermal ecocycle. And when all energy has been harvested, the water itself sinks back into the subterranean aquifers from which it came, reentering the geothermal ecocycle.
From locally sourced seafood, to produce cultivated on organic farms and in geothermal greenhouses, to free-roaming lamb that draws sustenance from Iceland’s endless frontiers,
For the skincare, every BL+ package encourages the consumer to recycle. When recycled properly, the glass is crushed and melted before being sculpted into new bottles or jars. Further, Blue Lagoon works with Pure North Recycling in Iceland to recycle all plastic generated at their R&D Center using renewable geothermal energy.
In 2021 the recycling rate was 35% but the company always aims to achieve a rating over 50%. Moreover, this year their plastic footprint was reduced by 78% since 2019.
No toxics materials can be found in the skincare products. They are 100% free of GMOs, toxins, essential oils, parabens, and petrochemicals.
BL+ by Blue Lagoon Iceland supports a variety of philanthropic causes in the areas of youth sports, the arts, health, and wellness in local communities on the Reykjanes Peninsula as well as throughout Iceland.
