The teabags are made of a cornstarch-based material called soilon, which produces significantly less carbon than plastic.
They planted over 280000 trees and have offset all of their carbon emissions from 2020-2022. Over the years they have decreased their emissions by an average of 5% (although this could be due to COVID-19). For each tree planted from their donations, it will remove over 308kg of CO2 from our atmosphere. They are also carbon neutral by doing this.
In London, tea is delivered using a 100% zero emission delivery company (electric vans and bikes).
Details on carbon emission by activity can be found in their Environmental Statement and 2023 Sustainability and Ethics Strategy
They use certified renewable electricity: wind, solar, biomass (they have installed solar panels at their warehouse).

Reducing waste has been one of the Bird and Blend Tea principles since dar 1. The teabags are made of a cornstarch-based material called soilon, which is 100% plastic-free and 100% compostable, which means that you won’t be seeing their teabags hanging around in our seas and landfills.
All further packaging and waste is recyclable or compostable, and nothing is sent to landfill.
No toxic materials are used in the blending of these teas.
Bird and Blend Tea is committed to making sure that the people growing their teas receive a fair deal by treating them fairly and doing business in the right way, in order to have a successful company and happy customers.
